Velanadu Velanadu is the ancient name of the coastal region on the banks of River Krishna in the Guntur District and include Chirala area of District-Prakasam. The terms ''Velanadu'' or ''Velnadu'' connote outer area (Velupala Prantham) in Telugu. In contrast the interior area around Amaravathi on the banks of Krishna was referred to as 'Kroranadu' or 'Kronnatavati', meaning krotha nadu, i.e., newly inhabited area. ==Geography==
The lush coastal area of the Krishna river delta comprising areas around Tenali, Repalle, Bapatla and Chirala is called ''Velanadu''. Broadly the coastal region between Pennar and Krishna rivers could be considered velanadu. People living here had a tradition of seafaring and international commerce. Traditional manufactured products include textiles exported from the ports. Agricultural products were also exported. People are highly industrious in agricultural ventures, farming, fisheries etc.
