It sits in the tributary with the Vilpion and the Chertemps. Vervins was mentioned in the ancient times as ''Verbinum'' in the ''Antonine Itinerary'' by Antoninus and later as ''Vironum'' in the Tabula Peutingeriana''. Ancient landmarks included a theatre and a temple, which were later rediscovered.
