Vesparax
Vesparax is a combination tablet containing 50 mg brallobarbital, 150 mg secobarbital and 50 mg hydroxyzine〔Lhermann J. Clinical application of a new very active hypnotic associating sodium secobarbital, calcium brallobarbital and hydroxyzine (UC-8130). Gazette Medicale de France. 1964 Mar 10;71:961-2. (French)〕 that is used as a sedative. This drug has been withdrawn from the market in most countries. Hydroxyzine and secobarbital lengthen the half-life of brallobarbital. Because of the long half-life of Vesparax, it has symptoms resembling a hangover on the next day,〔Yih TD, Rossum JM. Peculiar pharmacokinetics of brallobarbital as a source of complications in Vesparax intoxication. Xenobiotica. 1976 Jun;6(6):355-62.〕 and it has been replaced by newer medicine.〔Fischbach R. Efficacy and safety of midazolam and vesparax in treatment of sleep disorders. British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology. 1983;16 Suppl 1:167S-171S.〕 Jimi Hendrix was under the influence of Vesparax when he died of asphyxia due to aspiration of vomit on September 18th, 1970. In Argentina, Vesparax is a trade name for quetiapine, an atypical antipsychotic.〔"VESPARAX® (quetiapina) comprimidos recubiertos, Prospecto del producto", Dr. Lazar y Cía. S.A.Q. e I..
