Vitovska Vitovska or Vitouska, also known in Slovene as Vitovska Grganja or Garganja, is an Italian and Slovene wine grape predominantly planted in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region and in the Kras in the Slovenian Littoral. The name ''vitovska'' is of Slovene origin, from ''Vitovlje'',〔''Koledar Goriške Mohorjeve družbe za leto 1997.'' 1997. Gorizia: Mohorjeva družba, p. 118.〕 and ''grganja'' is of Friulian origin, from ''gargànie (nere)''.〔Štrekelj, Karol. 1986. "Prinos k poznavanju tujih besed v slovenščini." ''Letopis Slovenske matice'', pp. 138–167. Ljubljana: Slovenska matica, p. 146.〕 The grape is now mostly found in the lower Isonzo and Carso regions of northeast Italy. The grape produces a dry white wine.〔 M. Ewing-Mulligan & E. McCarthy ''Italian Wines for Dummies'' pg 139 Hungry Minds 2001 ISBN 0-7645-5355-0〕 Vitovska is a cross between Prosecco Tondo and Malvasia Bianca Lunga. 〔''Vitouska'' is the progeny of ''Prosecco tondo'' and ''Malvasia bianca lunga'', Crespan, M. Crespan, G. Giannetto, S. Meneghetti, S. Costacurta, A., Vitis, Germany, 2007, VOL 46; N° 4, pages 192-195, ISSN 0042-7500〕 ==References==
