Vupputur

Vupputur, also known as Upputur, is a small village situated in Parchur Mandal, Prakasam District, Andhra Pradesh, India, located 1.5 km away from Parchur and about 15 km away from Chirala on Parchur -Chirala route, and the tall Gopuram of Venkateswara temple of the village is a standard landmark to locate the village . It was called Lavanapuri Agrahara, where a wealthy Brahmin community used to reside. The village has a rich heritage and history. Its formation dates back to the 12th century (approximately). It is a land of temples.
Sattenapalli Radhakrishna Murthy was one among the popular persons. He owns a Ginning Industry, which was the First in the Village.
== History ==
This village is connected to the dynasty of Cholas. There is a temple dedicated to Lord Chennakesavaswamy, built during their reign. It was built as a mark of their victory. Later the temple was brought up and maintained by the then Zamindars of the Bendapudi dynasty. The clear history of the temple is still a dilemma.
In the same complex, adjacent to this Main temple, there is a Sivalayam ( Kasi Visweswara Swamy temple) . Vellamcheti family as hereditary trusties of an agricultural land in the village under a specific endowment of their family to the temple takes interest in the temple, mainly on Sivarathri day. Sivarathri is celebrated in a big way every year in this temple by them..The Vellamcheti family recently in 2010-2011, renovated the Dwajasthambham to Lord Kasi Visweswara Swamy temple.
Lord Amareswaraswamy temple is located on north side of the village and is maintained by Vuruma family.. In the village Jangam Shivaiah who lived almost 100 years and knows Vupputur better than anybody, was a renowned shaivite and vedic scholar, performing poojas in these Siva temples( and elsewhere in the state) for several decades with atmost devotion.
In olden days this Agraharam was populated with few hundreds of family names (surnames) of Brahmin families, though at present their number can be counted on fingures.
