WGAN

WGAN is an American AM radio station licensed to Portland, Maine and owned by Saga Communications. It is located at 560 on the AM band. The current format is news/talk, with local news being provided by a local staff and national news provided by CBS Radio. The morning show is called "The WGAN Morning News with Ken and Mike." Boston-based but Portland-born Howie Carr is heard in afternoons. And syndicated talk shows including Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Mark Levin and Coast to Coast AM with George Noory are heard during the weekday schedule.
The station was founded in 1938 by Guy Gannett Publishing, which was then the owner of the ''Portland Press Herald'' newspaper. WGAN gained a companion television station, WGAN-TV 13, in 1954. Until the early 1980s, Gannett's Portland operations owned the major daily newspaper, the CBS television station, 102.9 WGAN-FM and 560 WGAN, two of the city's top radio stations. Channel 13 was later renamed WGME when WGAN radio (along with its companion FM) was sold to Taylor Communications in 1983. In 1987, WGAN was sold by Taylor to Saga Communications, its present owner. The station is simulcast on WGIN AM 1400 Biddeford for better coverage in York County, Maine.
