WMFE-FM
WMFE-FM is the flagship National Public Radio member station in Orlando, Florida, owned by Community Communications, Inc.
The station signed on in 1980 playing a mix of public radio news/talk, jazz, and classical music, the jazz music was dropped in 1983. Prior to that year, Orlando was the largest city in the United States with no full-time public radio service and only had a part-time affiliation with University of Central Florida station WUCF-FM (WFTU-FM until 1978).
WMFE-FM previously aired a combination of public radio programming and classical music. In November, 2009, the primary HD1 channel switched to an all-news/talk format with programs from NPR and other public radio sources. All classical music was moved to the HD2 channel.
In April 2011, Community Communications announced that they had entered into a definitive agreement to sell their sister station, WMFE-TV, to Daystar Television Network, due to economic conditions.
