Originally owned and operated by Ron Elmore Ministries, Inc., the construction permit and station license were sold to Liberty University in October 2009, and became a satellite broadcasting tower for their flagship WRVL-FM station.〔http://www.rbr.com/radio/radio_deals/17739.html〕
This station received its original construction permit from the Federal Communications Commission on May 23, 2008.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Application Search Details (BNPED-20071022BMN) )〕 The new station was assigned the call letters KCFF by the FCC on February 6, 2009.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.exe/prod/cdbs/pubacc/prod/call_hist.pl?Facility_id=177072&Callsign=KCFF )〕 This assignment, possibly by accident, makes KCFF the only "K" lettered call sign in the Commonwealth of Virginia and one of a handful east of the Mississippi. On October 15, 2009, KCFF became WVRI.
