Warje

Warje(वारजे )is one of the many upcoming suburbs of Pune, Maharashtra, India. It is located on the Katraj-Dehu Road Bypass in between Pune's Chandni Chowk entry and Katraj entry. Warje used to be one of Pune's important Octroi check points. At the Warje junction(commonly referred to as the Warje Chowk), a road leads to Deccan Gymkhana(via-Karve Road) and the other to the famous Khadakwasla dam, one of the sources of Pune's drinking water, & the National Defense Academy (India), one of India's premier military training institutes.near warje a new suburbs is going to develop ie shivne gaon.shivne is connected to warje by old NDA road the distance between warje and shivne is about 2 km .and now days the warje - shivne area is the paradise for invester in real estate .
==Location & History==
Warje village is situated about 10 km from center of Pune. It was a very small village before 1970 with farming being main economical activity. Warje is on the bank of Mutha river which has catchment area in western hills and which brought good soil as well as sufficient water for farming. With a dense forest in proximity to river and creek areas, Warje was one of the stops during sheep migration from Konkan to regions inland. Warje can be seen directly as a communication point between Singhgad fort and Pune city. Signs of these can be seen in rock areas next to Ganpati temple at the west of the town. Ganpati temple has existed since 1982 and for probably quite some time before that. The temple was rebuilt in 1990 and is known as Ganpati Mathab.warje gaon is exist in shivajis era in warje there are many land founder eg chaudhri ,baratepatil,dodke,and dangatpatil.
Warje saw lot of change after 1970, with significant increase in population of Pune. The change from village to suburb took toll on environment. Major part of the forest, fertile lands were converted to apartment complexes of concrete and tar. Most of the land in Warje is now occupied by housing complexes. Just under the Warje fly-over bridge everyday early morning there is a crowd of unskilled labour which awaits daily wage based work from contractors, transporters and construction builders.
The smaller region of 'Malwadi' within Warje has seen rapid growth in the last ten years, again mostly due to the mushrooming of several big banner housing complexes resulting in a population boom in the area and also resulting in much stress on the local public infrastructure. Warje is connected by an extensive network of local municipal city buses to all parts of Pune. The buses operate from the "Ganpati Matha" bus station in Malwadi and connect the suburb to Swargate, Katraj, Shivajinagar, Pune station, MarketYard, etc. and even up to Chinchwad and Nigadi. Thanks to the proximity to the heart of the Pune City (Deccan Gymkhana - 7 km, Pune Stn - 10 km) and more or less insulated from the west by the large area under the National Defence Academy, land prices in Warje / Malwadi have skyrocketed in recent times.
