Weserstadion

The Weserstadion ((:ˈveːzɐˈʃtaːdi̯ɔn)) is a multi-purpose stadium in Bremen, Germany. The Weserstadion is scenically situated on the north bank of the Weser River and is surrounded by lush green parks (the name 'Werder' is a regional German word for “river peninsula”). The city center is only about a kilometer away. It is the home stadium of German Bundesliga club Werder Bremen.
It presented a bid to be a host city in the 2006 FIFA World Cup, which was ultimately turned down.
Legendary artists that have performed at the stadium include Bon Jovi, Michael Jackson, Depeche Mode, Metallica, The Rolling Stones, Guns N' Roses, Tina Turner and Van Halen, among others.
The Weser Stadium has been modified from 2008 to 2011. In this period both curves in west and east of the stadium were broken down and rebuilt afterwards directly behind the goals. Doing so the stadium lost its running track but the new tribunes offer a closer atmosphere inside the stadium and a better view for the spectators in the curves.
A new roof was built on top of all tribunes that covers all rows of spectators. Furthermore a new exterior facade was established in east, south and west of the stadium including the previously built towers in the north of the stadium. These towers offer a restaurant and offices for the club and local companies.
Both, the new roof and facade, were equipped with a photovoltaic system.〔http://www.weserstadion.de/weser-stadion/historie/〕
