Whissonsett
Whissonsett is a village and a civil parish in the English county of Norfolk.〔OS Explorer Map 238 – Dereham & Aylsham, Castle Acre & Reepham. ISBN 0-319-23810-5〕 The village is south of Fakenham, west north west of Norwich and miles north north east of London. The nearest railway station is at King's Lynn for the Fen Line which runs between King's Lynn and Cambridge. The nearest airport is Norwich International Airport. The parish had in 2001 census, a population of 483 in 206 households.〔Office for National Statistics & Norfolk County Council, 2001. "(Census population and household counts for unparished urban areas and all parishes )."〕 For the purposes of local government, the parish falls within the district of Breckland. The village lies close to the source of the River Wensum. ==History== The name Whissonsett is thought to derive from Witcingkeseta as it has been known as in the past and means either the settlement of the Witcing tribe or a place of watery meadows.
