Winslade
Winslade is a hamlet and civil parish in the Basingstoke and Deane district of Hampshire, England. It lies south of Basingstoke and covers an area of .〔(Statistics from Bd. of Agric. (1905) )〕 The parish is at the foot of a wooded hill with the A339 running through it. ==History== The manor of Winslade was held by a landowner Hugh de Port in 1086 and had continued in his ownership by his descendants for centuries until 1555 until the manor was sold by William, Marquis of Winchester. One of William's descendants, the Duke of Bolton, played a prominent part in the life of Winslade. William died in 1555 and the land was passed onto his son Francis of Bolton, who as lord of both Kempshott and Winslade was fined 4d for non-attendance at the Basingstoke Hundred court in 1560. Two years later he sold Winslade to his overlord, John Marquess of Winchester, whose descendants has continued ever since. 〔(John Marquess of Winchester )〕
