Xanthis
The name Xanthis has its links with the tiny island of Castellorizo in Greece. It is derived from the Greek word for "fair" or "blonde". Ancestors of the Xanthis family played an integral role in the running and administration of the island in the 18th, 19th and 20th Centuries (primarily before the catastrophes of World War II). One such person was Evangelos Xanthis, who on March 2, 1913 was elected into the People's Delegation, the assembly which had full administrative authority on Castellorizo. Following the mass exodus of Castellorizians from the effects and damage of the war to Australia, many people currently have links to the name all over the country (an amazing feat since it comes from such a small island with less than 300 in population).
