Xlox The Xlox genes, also called Pdx genes, are a group of genes found in many, but not all, animals. Xlox genes contain a homeobox DNA sequence and code for proteins that act as transcription factors. The human genome has one Xlox genes, called IPF1, while the orthologous gene in mouse and other vertebrates is called Pdx1.〔Stoffel M, Stein R, Wright CV, Espinosa R, Le Beau MM, Bell GI (July 1995). "Localization of human homeodomain transcription factor insulin promoter factor 1 (IPF1) to chromosome band 13q12.1". Genomics 28 (1): 125–6. doi:10.1006/geno.1995.1120. PMID 7590740.〕 The gene has been lost from the genomes of the fruitfly ''Drosophila'' and the nematode ''Caenorhabditis elegans''. In many animals, the Xlox or Pdx gene is part of a ParaHox gene cluster.〔Brooke et al 1998 Nature 392: 920-922. PMID 9582071〕 〔
