Yamāntaka is seen as a wrathful manifestation of Mañjuśrī, the bodhisattva of wisdom, and in other contexts functions as a dharmapala. Within Buddhism, "terminating death" is a quality of all buddhas as they have stopped the cycle of rebirth, samsara.
