Zawita Zawita ((クルド語:Zawîte),(アラビア語:زاويتة), ), is an historically Assyrian town of about 5,000 people in the Dohuk Governorate.〔(A Tour in the north. )〕 The name of the village is thought to come from Syriac ''ܙܘܝܬܐ'' meaning "corner." The village is inhabited mainly by Kurds and the second biggest group being the Assyrians. At one point it was home to mostly Assyrians, prior to the Simele massacre. A number of Assyrian Christian-owned businesses in the village were looted and burned downed during the 2011 Dohuk riots. ==References==
