Zhanaozen
Janaozen or Zhanaozen (), formerly known as Novy Uzen (, until 1993), is a town in the Mangystau Region of Kazakhstan located south-east of the city of Aktau. The name of the town means "new river" in Kazakh. Zhanaozen is a town of region significance. It is completely surrounded by the territory of Karakiya District, but administratively does not belong to the district. Population: ==History== The town was founded in 1964, because opening oil a field of Uzen.With 21 October 1968 Novy Uzen took the status of the settlement of city type, and since March 20, 1973-the status of the town of region significance. In June 1989 in Novy Uzen there were large disorders on the national soil. 7 October 1993-Novy Uzen is renamed into Zhanaozen.
