Polish złoty
The złoty (pronounced ;〔The nominative plural, used for numbers ending in 2, 3 and 4 (except those in 12, 13 and 14), is ''złote'' (:ˈzwɔtɛ); the genitive plural, used for all other numbers, is ''złotych'' 〕 sign: zł; code: PLN), which literally means "golden", is the currency of Poland. The modern złoty is subdivided into 100 ''groszy'' (singular: ''grosz'', alternative plural forms: ''grosze''; '' groszy''). The recognized English form of the word is zloty, plural zloty or zlotys.〔American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, 3rd ed., p. 2078.〕 The currency sign, zł, is composed of Polish small letters ''z'' and ''ł'' (Unicode: & ).
As a result of inflation in the early 1990s, the currency underwent redenomination. Thus, on January 1, 1995, 10,000 old złotych (PLZ) became one new złoty (PLN). Since then, the currency has been relatively stable, with an exchange rate fluctuating between 3-5 złoty for a United States dollar.
