Algea (Ancient Greek: ) is used by Hesiod in the plural as the personification of sorrows and griefs, which are there represented as the daughters of Eris, Greek goddess of strife.〔Hesiod, ''Theogony'' 227〕 ''Algos'' in Greek is a neuter noun literally meaning "pain". She or he was a sibling to Lethe, Limos, Horkos, and Ponos.
The name is related to the word suffix '-algia' denoting a painful condition.〔(Etymology online )〕
