Bianet (acronym for ''Bağımsız İletişim Ağı'', Independent Communication Network) is an independent Turkish press agency based in Istanbul. It was established in 2000 by journalist Nadire Mater,〔born in 1949, see "Nadire Mater" in the ''Turkish Wikipedia''〕 former representative of Reporters sans frontières, and left-wing activist Ertuğrul Kürkçü and since November 2003 is tied with Inter Press Service.
