Chaturvedi (literally "four Veda is Brahmin caste found in northern India. The name literally means "() of four Vedas". ==Distribution==
The legends trace the origin of Chaturvedis to Mathura, the holy city of Krishna. The title "Chaturvedi" indicates that the title bearer's forefathers were proficient in all of the four Vedas. This was considered a significant achievement and resulted in an elevated social status. The community is mainly found in western Uttar Pradesh, where they speak Hindi dialects such as Braj Bhasha. Apart from "Chaturvedi", the community members also other surnames, such as "Chaubey".
