Benzophenone is reacted with phosphorus pentachloride to give diphenyldichloromethane. Alternatively, dichlorodephenylmethane can be prepared by reacting two moles of Benzene with
Carbon tetrachloride and anhydrous Aluminium chloride as catalyst in a double Friedel-Crafts alkylation.
