eegee's

eegee's is a chain of 26 restaurants in the greater areas of Tucson, Arizona, as well as one in Casa Grande, Arizona. It specializes in submarine sandwiches (subs) and salads, but it is most famous for its frozen fruit drinks, officially called "eegee's drinks" but colloquially known simply as an "eegee's." It was founded in 1971 by Edmund Irving and Robert Greenberg, who combined their initials ("E" from Edmund and "G" from Greenberg) to create the name "eegee's."〔(eegee's - Our Story )〕 The company has been highly noted for its social and environmental involvement, such as its tradition of donating time, food, and money to local charities; the collection of donations for local charitable organizations;〔(JFCS to benefit from eegee's annual coupon card promotion )〕 instituting the community recycling program 'Recycle for People First!'; and its program for training and employing the mentally disabled.〔(Eegee's launches restaurant to train mentally disabled | Nation's Restaurant News | Find Articles at BNET )〕 It is owned and operated by CEO Foods, Inc.〔https://www.azag.gov/enforcement-action-cases/state-v-ceo-foods-inc-sexretaliation〕
==History==

In 1971 Edmund Irving and Robert Greenberg pooled their resources and bought a used vending truck. In the beginning, Ed or Bob served their lemon eegee’s frozen drink in front of high schools, at sporting events, and at concerts. Over the years, the vending trucks were retired as they turned their business into a growing restaurant chain in Southern Arizona. Currently, there are 26 locations in the greater Tucson area, as well as one location in Casa Grande.〔http://www.eegees.com/about/〕
On September 18, 2006, eegee’s was sold to the O’Connor family (CEO Foods, Inc.), with Tom O’Connor as the new president, thus continuing the family owned and operated tradition that eegee’s was founded on. As of May, 2012, Director of Operations Robert Jensen was promoted to President and CEO. Mr. Jensen has been an employee of eegee's since 1976.〔(Tucson success story worth preserving ||| www.azstarnet.com )〕
