Gollaprolu is a Municipality north-east of Pithapuram in the East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh in south India, about 130 km south of Vishakhapatnam and is on the rail line between Madras and Calcutta. The nearest city (25 km) is Kakinada, and the city is exactly in between Chebrolu eastgodavari and Pithapuram. Other than the stop at Gollaprolu, the nearest railway junction (16 km) is Samarlakota (also called Samalkot), the nearest air strip (45 miles) is Rajahmundhry and the nearest airport (100 miles) is Visakhapatnam (Vizag). Even though great political activists are there in Gollaprolu no one got seat for Member of Legislative Assembly from National/ Regional parties Except Sri Mogali Surya Rao of C.P.I (He contested in 1962 MLA elections from pithapuram Assembly constituency and secured second place). Hope soon a person from Gollaprolu may sit in Assembly. Gollaprolu is a municipality and mandal headquarters. It got its first mandal parishad seat when it was introduced in 1987 under the then chief minister N.T.Rama Rao. Dr. Hemanadha Rao Koppula was elected as the first Mandal president. He served his term from 1987 to 1992. Though a headquarters, it did not have its own mandal office building until 2005, then it was built by the then mandal parishat president Sri Mogali Subrahmanyam (Chitti Babu). The Mandal of Gollaprolu had a population of 76,352 in 2011. Gollaprolu itself has 23,605 people. The region is cyclone-prone, and the people are mostly landless agricultural workers.
