HND was used extensively by the Japanese during World War II but was discontinued due to its toxicity. ==Preparation== Dinitrodiphenylamine is treated with 98% nitric acid. The starting material, dinitrodiphenylamine, is obtained from the reaction of aniline, dinitrochlorobenzene, and soda ash.
