A socionom (Swedish and Danish), sosionom (Norwegian) or sosionomi (Finnish) is a person with a degree in social work from a Scandinavian university. Law, sociology and psychology are also part of the degree. The course is 3.5–4 years long. Socionoms are often hired to administer the Scandinavian welfare systems. In Sweden, the socionom training was originally given by specialised social work colleges (''socialhögskola''), which were integrated into the regular Swedish university system in 1977, usually in the form of a department of social work at an existing university or university college.
