tholene
Tholene was a mentholated lip balm made by the Rosebud Perfume Company of Woodsboro, Maryland. It is notable for its distinctive packaging (empty tins are considered collectible). Today it's sold as "Smith's Rosebud Salve." It was created by druggist, G.F. Smith, who perfected Rosebud Salve.

Dr.G.F. Smith in 1892 and it's been a staple in the cosmetic business ever since. Rosebud Salve's uses are many and it has been reported on in many major magazines, including Allure, Oprah, Newsweek, Cosmopolitan, Working Mother, Ladies Home Journal and others.
Rosebud Salve is one Hollywood's guarded beauty secrets. Well known celebrities carry in it in their purses and they wouldn't be caught without it. Rosebud Salve has won the Lifetime Achievement Beauty award, given by Self Magazine in 2001. And this company is still owned and operated by the family of its originator, Dr.Smith.
It can be used on chapped skin, blemishes, as an eyebrow tamer, and as a lip balm. Or use it to soften chapped skin, for diaper rash, insect bites.
