It is the highest mountain in Kosovo, and the highest mountain of Serbia, according to the view held by the government of Serbia that Kosovo is part of Serbia. Between 1992 and 2006, it was the highest mountain peak of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, and then of the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro. Up until the 2008 Kosovo declaration of independence, Đeravica was indisputably the highest mountain of Serbia.
